March 8, 2022, MGCA Meeting – “What’s in your dirt”

“What’s in your dirt?”
Dr. David Moore, Professor of Archeology at Warren-Wilson College, will be the speaker on the topic of “What’s in Your Dirt”. He provides insight into what they might find in their garden dirt. The Appalachian Summit Region has yielded artifacts dating back some 13,000 years and has been occupied by numerous indigenous cultures. He presents a chronology of these cultures and insight into artifacts associated with them. Additionally, David will speak about a recent discovery in which he has been a principal investigator. The remains of Fort San Juan, built in the year 1567, the first known European settlement in the interior of the present United States are being excavated near Morganton, NC.
Remember to screen your dirt. No telling what’s in there.
Attendees should ring and request entrance at the south side Atrium, (across the parking lot from the State Employees Credit Union).
Members and guests may participate in limited Social Contact between 11:15 and 11:50 AM. An optional lunch will be served at 12:00 NOON.
Attendees are requested to follow the Covid-19 protocols mandated by the Buncombe County Health Department and maintained by FBCA. Masks are to be worn in the building when not eating with 4 persons per table.
Tables will be set with placemats, napkins, silverware, and glasses. Sweeten and unsweetened tea and water will be on the tables with coffee self-service at the sideboard. Attendees requesting lunch are to self-serve and bus their table after meals.
The entrée for the luncheon is BBQ with side dishes and salad. You may elect to have a larger dinner salad in lieu of the entrée and sides. The cost of this menu meal is $12.00 per plate.

Please make your reservation before Noon, Friday, March 4th, 2022 to allow adequate time for the preparation of the dining room and this meal.
