June 14 – MGCA Field Trip to NC Arboretum Bonsai
June 14 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Our June 14th Club Meeting will be a field trip to the North Carolina Arboretum. Our speaker is Mr. Arthur Joura, Bonsai Curator. Arthur has graciously agreed to speak informally to our group beginning at 12:00 Noon. This presentation will begin in the sheltered area on the upper terrace of the Bonsai Garden. You can find out much more about the Bonsai Garden in the “Curator’s Journal” that Arthur has created at curatorsjournal.net.
Arthur wants everyone to know that the program would not ideally be a stationary experience under the pavilion, but one in which we walk together as a group through the garden. It might be helpful for members to know that beforehand so that they can anticipate it.
Arboretum Members can of course gain admission to the campus by use of their card. MGCA members who have not yet joined the NC Arboretum will be granted entry to this event by identifying themselves as members of the Men’s Garden Club of Asheville.
A boxed lunch meal can be pre-ordered and will be available in the Bent Creek Bistro located in the Education Building beginning at 11:15 AM. The Bistro requires that we provide the details of the meal order by the 7th of June so that they can be appropriately prepared. There are 4 options for your Box lunches. Please make sure that you have a confirmed food order through the calling committee or by direct email contact with Bob Jones at email@example.com or by text message at (828) 779-6524. This meal will be $16.00.
Turkey and cheddar with fresh field greens
Ham and Swiss with fresh field greens
Veggie sandwich with local roots hummus, cucumber, and a superfood mix.
Curried chicken salad on local slice bread with field greens.
Each one of these options will come in a to-go box with a package of Mayonnaise, mustard, Housemaid cookie, and paper napkins. Bottled water will be available for each customer.
Members will need to identify themselves to the staff to pick up their ordered lunch. Seating will be wherever you find it. There are tables and chairs in the bistro, rocking chairs and other seating on the building’s porches, and a small picnic area in front of the building. Food must not be taken into the Bonsai Garden.
